BUYING A WEAPON SUPPRESSOR IN-HOUSE

At Mountain Top Munitions, we make buying a suppressor as easy as possible. Follow this step-by-step guide to purchasing your suppressor and submitting your ATF eForm 4.

Step 1: Verify Eligibility

Before purchasing a suppressor, make sure you meet these requirements:

  1. Age: You must be at least 21 years old.
  2. Residency: Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  3. Legal Status: Must not be a prohibited person (e.g., felon, domestic violence restraining order, etc.).
  4. State Laws: Suppressors must be legal in your state of residence.

Step 2: Choose Your Suppressor

At Mountain Top Munitions, we offer a selection of suppressors in stock, and we can also order one specifically for you if we don’t have exactly what you need. Contact us and we will help you find just what you are looking for.

Step 3: Decide on Ownership Type

You can register your suppressor in one of three ways:

  1. As an Individual – You alone own and use the suppressor.
  2. Through a Trust – Allows multiple responsible persons to legally use it.
  3. Through a Corporation – Best for business-related ownership.  Our team can help determine which option is best for you.

Step 4: Submit Fingerprints & Photo

Mountain Top Munitions has its own fingerprint system, so you do not need to use an outside source. We will handle your fingerprint submission in-house for a seamless process. We can also provide passport style photos in-house. This service is $35 for first time customers.

Step 5: Complete ATF eForm 4

Mountain Top Munitions will assist you in completing your ATF Form 4 electronically. This includes:

  • Suppressor details (Make, Model, Serial Number, Caliber).
  • Buyer information (Name, Address, DOB, SSN, etc.).
  • CLEO notification (if filing as an individual).
  • Uploading a passport-style photo.
  • Submitting electronic fingerprints.

Step 6: Pay the $200 Tax Stamp

The ATF requires a $200 tax stamp for each suppressor. Payment is made directly through the eForms system.

Step 7: Wait for ATF Approval

Once submitted, the ATF will process your Form 4. Current approval times range from 6 to 12 months. Although, we have recently been seeing much shorter wait times. You can check your application status by:

  1. Logging into ATF eForms and reviewing “My Forms.”
  2. Calling the ATF at (304) 616-4500

Step 8: Pick Up Your Suppressor

Once the ATF approves your form 4, you will be notified via email from the ATF, also Mountain Top Munitions will notify you as well. You will need to complete an ATF 4473 Form before taking possession of your suppressor.
