Can I legally buy a suppressor from Mountain Top Munitions?
Yes, if you live in a state where suppressors are legal. You must be at least 21 years old and meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
Do I need a special license to buy a suppressor?
No special license is required, but you must file an ATF Form 4 and receive an approved tax stamp before taking possession.
How does the purchase process work?
- Choose Your Suppressor – Select your suppressor from Mountain Top Munitions and complete the purchase.
- Select Your Local FFL/SOT – Provide us with the name of your preferred local dealer who is licensed to handle NFA items.
- Paperwork Submission – Your FFL will assist in filing your ATF Form 4 along with fingerprints, a passport-style photo, and a $200 tax stamp payment to the ATF.
- ATF Approval – Wait for approval (typically 6–12 months).
- Pick Up Your Suppressor – Once approved, your FFL will notify you to complete the final paperwork and take possession.
What is an NFA tax stamp?
A $200 fee paid to the ATF for transferring a suppressor, required under the National Firearms Act (NFA).
Can I use a gun trust to buy a suppressor?
Yes! A gun trust allows multiple responsible parties to legally possess and use the suppressor.
How long does the ATF approval process take?
Wait times vary but typically range from 6 to 12 months for Form 4 approvals.
Do I need to notify local law enforcement?
Yes. When purchasing a suppressor, you must notify your Chief Law Enforcement Officer (CLEO) as part of the Form 4 process. You are required to send a copy of the completed Form 4 to your local CLEO. This is purely a notification requirement; no approval is needed from the CLEO.
What happens if my Form 4 is denied?
